THEO는 2025년 5월 15일부터 6월 14일까지 김세진 작가와 박영환 작가의 2인 전시인 『평/행』을 개최합니다.

“우리는 서로 다른 감정의 좌표에서 출발했지만, 결국 같은 시대를 살아가는 동시성 속에서 나란히 걷고 있다.”

삶을 기억으로 정의하는 이가 있고, 감정으로 정의하는 이도 있다. 박영환과 김세진은 각기 다른 조형 언어로 기억과 감정을 탐구하며, 응시의 태도를 통해 오늘의 세계를 그려낸다. 격렬하지 않으나 깊은 파장을 지닌 이들의 작업은, 관람자에게 조용한 반향을 일으킨다.

박영환은 구체(球體)를 통해 시간의 흐름과 기억의 소멸을 시각화한다. 창 너머로 아득히 떠오른 구체들은 잊히는 감정의 입자이자, 삶의 경계에 놓인 흔적들이다. 화면을 지배하는 명도 변화는 감정의 농도와 기억의 밀도를 시적으로 전환하며, ‘기억이란 무엇인가’라는 본질적 질문을 던진다.

김세진은 감정의 진폭을 정면으로 응시한다. 그의 화면에는 미완의 사랑, 불확실한 관계, 감정의 격류가 여백과 충돌 속에 공존한다. 그는 “가짜가 아닌 진짜를 찾아 헤매는” 내면의 과정을 섬세하게 기록하며, 감정이 뿌리내릴 수 있는 풍경을 조심스럽게 그려낸다.

《평행》은 두 작가가 나란히 구축한 감정의 지형도를 통해, 지금 이 시대의 정서를 환기한다. 하나는 기억을 응시하고, 다른 하나는 감정을 발화한다. 각기 다른 궤적이 나란히 놓일 때, 그 사이에는 ‘동시대성’이라는 투명한 접면이 생긴다. 이 전시는 병렬을 넘어서, 서로를 비추고 교차하며, 감각의 겹을 드러내는 장치가 된다.

서로 닿을 듯 말 듯 나아가는 두 시선은, 끝내 각자의 길로 향하면서도 관객의 내면에 잔상을 남긴다. 이 전시가 관람자에게도 자신만의 감정과 기억의 궤적을 마주하는 창이 되기를 바란다.

THEO will host a duo exhibition titled 『Parallel』 featuring artists Sejin Kim and Younghwan Park from May 15 to June 14 2025.

“We may begin from different emotional coordinates, but we walk side by side within the simultaneity of our time.”

Some define life through memory, others through emotion. Park Young Hwan and Kim Sejin each explore memory and emotion through their own sculptural languages, rendering the world of today through the lens of quiet contemplation. Their works, though not overtly dramatic, leave profound resonances that unfold slowly in the viewer’s mind.

Park Young Hwan visualizes the passage of time and the fading of memory through the recurring motif of spheres. These globes, appearing faintly beyond a distant window, become particles of forgotten feelings and traces left at the edges of life. His canvases are defined by subtle shifts in tone, transforming emotional density and mnemonic weight into poetic gestures that prompt the question: What is memory?

Kim Sejin confronts the full amplitude of emotional experience head-on. His paintings portray incomplete love, uncertain relationships, and emotional turbulence—elements that coexist within the tension and openness of his compositions. Through these works, he delicately traces an inner journey in search of authenticity, quietly rendering landscapes where emotion might take root.

Parallel evokes the sensibilities of our time through the emotional cartographies constructed by both artists. One gazes upon memory; the other gives voice to emotion. When these distinct trajectories are aligned side by side, a transparent interface of contemporaneity begins to emerge. This exhibition thus becomes more than a parallel—it becomes a site of mutual reflection and intersection, where sensory layers are exposed.

The two gazes advance as if they may touch yet never fully meet—each ultimately charting its own course, yet leaving lingering impressions within the viewer. It is our hope that this exhibition offers a reflective window through which audiences may encounter their own landscapes of memory and emotion.
