Heo on (b. 1985)
Heo On completed her undergraduate degree in Visual Information Media at Chosun University and went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Meta Design from Hongik University Graduate School. She also studied illustration through a CE Course at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
Heo On has held solo exhibitions in various places around the world including France, Luxembourg, Seoul, and Jeju, and has been invited to participate in group exhibitions organized by notable institutions such as KUNST-DIREKT GALLERY in Germany, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, and the Hangaram Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center. She has also participated in art fairs in major cities like New York, Seoul, and Busan.
The artist depicts her favorite time of day, the afternoon, and the sanctuary bathed in its light. The rays of light entering through the windows in her works softly illuminate the room, as she reconstructs spaces from comforting memories into new environments.
Heo On also incorporates inspirations from masters like Matisse, Picasso, and Van Gogh into her works, creating paintings within paintings that help viewers delve deeper into her artistic world. These meta-images serve to connect the past with the present.
Common elements in her works such as teacups, vases, and flowers invite viewers into the paintings, signifying the time she enjoys within these spaces. Her works, characterized by contrasts such as inside and outside, shadow and light, black and white, achieve harmony through the interaction of these elements.
In the solo exhibition selected by the E-Land Cultural Foundation in 2023, I explored the expansiveness of space by depicting the view of a room from the outside and the forest seen through the window.
