Hyojun Kim’s work explores the differences and changes in perception that visual information can trigger in individuals. At the beginning of his career, Kim was interested in the boundary between abstraction and figuration, and the process by which humans perceive images, as he experienced the process by which the same work is interpreted differently from its original intention due to differences in the viewer’s experience and perception or the environment at the time of viewing. He is continuing his exploration of the various visual boundaries that images can trigger by reducing or adding figurativeness by using the form, background, color, and environment of the object to guide the viewer’s perception in a certain direction, reversing or blurring it.
