Mio Yamato is an artist who explores the fundamental connections between life, nature, and the cosmos through points, lines, and repetitive patterns. Yamato transforms the material reality of blood into an artistic language. To the artist, blood symbolizes the vitality of human life while also encapsulating the cyclical rhythms of nature and the cosmos. Through microscopic observation, she reinterprets the forms and movements of blood cells into repetitive and organic patterns of points and lines. These patterns transcend mere representation, acting as a medium to explore the interconnectedness, transformation, and ultimate integration of life and matter into a grand cosmic order.

미오 야마토는 1990년 일본 시가현에서 태어나 현재 교토를 기반으로 활동하는 현대미술 작가입니다. 그녀의 초기 작업에는 점과 선과 같은 간결하고 최소 단위의 요소를 중첩한 DOT(점) 과 LINE(선) 시리즈를 발표하며, 세포의 움직임, 지층의 퇴적, 나무의 나이테와 같은 생명 활동 자체를 주제로 한 작품을 제작해 왔습니다. 최근에는 호흡의 흔적을 평면 공간에 담아낸 Breath 시리즈, 자연광의 변화와 존재를 포착하려는 시도인 Spectrum 시리즈 등, 삶과 존재에 대한 깊은 고찰을 중심으로 시간, 지각, 그리고 지구상의 다양한 현상과 사건을 주제로 한 다채로운 시리즈를 전개하고 있습니다. Under my skin은 작가 자신의 혈액 세포를 광학 현미경으로 관찰하는 데서 시작되는 시리즈입니다. 채혈 후 시간이 지남에 따라 또는 건강 상태에 따라 다양한 변화를 보여주는 세포의 모습을 관찰하며, 인간 내부에도 다양한 생명 형태와 활동이 존재함을 작품으로 그려냅니다.
