기민정 (b.1986) 작가는 서울대학교에서 동양화를 전공하고, 대학원에서 석·박사 과정을 마쳤습니다. 작가의 작품은 화선지에 담긴 미세한 흔적과 가벼운 감각들을 보다 물질적인 차원으로 끌어오려는 시도로 읽힙니다. 유리라는 차갑고 무게감 있는 재료와 화선지를 병치함으로써, 두 매체 간의 긴장을 탐색했던 이전 작업에서, 최근의 신작들은 보다 회화적인 언어로 전환됩니다. 선이 지닌 내적 리듬과 그 반복에서 발생하는 구조들이, 화면 위에서 분명한 존재감을 갖고 자리하는 것입니다.

Minjung Key studied traditional East Asian painting at Seoul National University, where she also completed her graduate studies. The artist’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in an intimate engagement with materials. By juxtaposing the weight and coldness of glass with the softness of hanji, she explores the tension between contrasting materials. In her newer works, however, this exploration evolves—what emerges is a visual language shaped by the rhythmic qualities inherent in the line itself. These lines, generated through a painterly logic, coalesce into forms that assert a palpable sense of weight and presence within the pictorial space.
